Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to work in pediatric home health? At Strive Health Services, our clinicians bring life-changing therapy directly to children. Specifically, we serve families right where they need us most.
Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes to spend a day with Christine. She is a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Strive. From morning feeding therapy to afternoon AAC sessions, her day is filled with meaningful breakthroughs. Additionally, she gets to enjoy the unmatched flexibility that only home-based pediatric therapy can offer.
“The best part about home health is that you can make your own schedule—it’s super flexible!” — Christine, Strive Speech Therapist
The Morning Jumpstart: Flexibility and Routine
For Christine, a successful day of home-based speech therapy starts with a little morning routine at home. Thanks to the autonomy of home health scheduling, there’s no rigid time clock to punch or exhausting office commute to endure.
First, Christine gives her dogs a quick treat. Next, she grabs her therapy bag and heads out to her first appointment.
Christine’s Daily Schedule: Driving Outcomes Where Life Happens
In home health care, therapy happens during everyday moments. Therefore, Strive therapists can use a child’s own toys to achieve milestones. This natural environment makes every session deeply personal.
Here is what a typical, high-impact day looks like for Christine:
9:00 AM – Pragmatics & Social Communication
Christine kicks off the morning focusing on pragmatics. Social communication therapy helps children understand conversational turn-taking, facial expressions, and how to use language functionally in social settings.
10:00 AM – Pediatric Feeding Therapy
Next up is a pediatric feeding session. In-home feeding therapy allows Christine to work directly in the family’s kitchen, addressing sensory aversions, swallowing safety, and oral-motor skills using the exact foods the child eats every day.
10:45 AM & 11:15 AM – Early Language Intervention
The late morning is dedicated to back-to-back early language sessions. These visits focus on late talkers and toddlers, using play-based therapy to expand vocabulary, encourage word imitation, and build early communication confidence.
11:45 AM & 12:30 PM – AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)
Before and after a quick midday break, Christine dives into AAC therapy. Whether a child uses a low-tech picture board or a high-tech speech-generating device, AAC empowers non-verbal or minimally verbal children to find their voices.
1:45 PM – Advanced AAC Coaching
Christine continues her focus on robust communication systems with an afternoon AAC session. This visit emphasizes parent coaching, ensuring the family feels confident modeling device usage during everyday routines.
3:30 PM – Articulation & Speech Sound Therapy
As school-aged children wrap up their school days, Christine shifts focus to articulation. This session targets specific speech sound disorders, helping a client practice correct tongue placement to make their speech clearer and more intelligible.
4:30 PM – Wrap-Up AAC Session
Christine’s final patient visit of the day is another dynamic AAC session, capitalizing on late-afternoon energy with fun, interactive communication games.
5:10 PM – Documentation & Documentation Catch-Up
To wrap up her day, Christine completes her clinical notes and documentation. Because home health offers independent scheduling, she can finish this up from a local coffee shop or the comfort of her own couch before officially ending her day.
